The words of Bernard Malamud explode into vivid theatrical life when TJT brings to the stage his two most celebrated stories – darkly hilarious fables of assimilation and identity – in the Word for Word style. The Magic Barrel, centers on a hapless rabbinical student’s encounter with a mysterious, herring-eating matchmaker; in The Jewbird*, a feathered nudnik** disturbs the lives of an assimilated Brooklyn family.
*The Jewbird was originally conceived in collaboration with Word for Word Performing Arts Company (a project of the Z Space Studio)
