'Una
Noche de Sueños Vidi Flores (A Dream of
Flowers)' (Thru Feb 10)
Heart
Song
If
Valentine's Day isn't soon enough for you, try a
little Ladino, the language of the Sephardic
Jews, set to music. "It sounds like Jewish
salsa," one audience member exclaimed after
hearing it performed by the Ladino Project. Set
to an original score, this sensual hybrid of
dance, theater and vocals spins tales of love,
loss and heartbreak that will turn even a
hard-nosed cynic into a romantic before February
14. Filled with sambas and tangos with a little
jazz thrown in, the sounds of flores,
written and composed by Albert Greensberg, range
from soothing to celebratory. With only 160,000
Ladino speakers left in the world, this precious
language may be on the verge of extinction. Come
hear what you've been missing -- it's sure to
make you swoon. -- Anna Mantzaris, special to SF
